A PERMANENT WORK IN PROGRESS

RECESSES is a 'zine based in Birmingham, UK, but open to the world.

It was created as a home for work that doesn't quite fit anywhere.

We've all been there - months of submission rejections outnumbering acceptances, the struggle to find a place for the pieces that aren't quite fitting where you imagined them too.

So why not create my own 'zine*?

And that's what I've done!

Whether it's a piece that has seen more no's than yes', or has previously been published but needs a revival, or even if it's something new and experimental - all is welcome here!

Poetry, prose, non-fiction, photography, paintings, sketches, illustrations, comic previews, graphics, music, short-films, animations - you name it, I'll try my best and make a place for it!

All art has a home, but some pieces take longer to find it.

*'zine, because I still haven't decided if it's quite a magazine or an e-zine so maybe a bit of both!

...just me! RECESSES is currently led by a one-woman team.

I am a writer and poet, based in Birmingham, UK. A graduate from the University of Birmingham with a BA in English (2:1, 'cause your girl isn't perfect), I have previously been published in The Visual Verse, Spare Parts Lit, Halu Halo Journal, The Dried Review, and Roi Fainéant Press.

Away from RECESSES, I am a mum to two babies and I work as a freelance artist, with a brief background in Television Production and video/audio transcription.
